VICTORIA, Texas — The Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority (GBRA) will be hosting the 26th Annual Kids Classic fishing tournament from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 1, 2019, at Coleto Creek Park.
Kids, between two and 16 years of age will be able to test their fishing skills and compete for the heaviest weighted fish. Children will also have the opportunity to catch several different fish species such as, Largemouth Bass, White Bass, Catfish, Crappie, and Sunfish.
The competition will be broken out into four different age categories, 2-6, 7-9, 10-12, and 13-16. Trophies will be awarded in each age group for the heaviest bass, catfish and crappie, in addition to the smallest perch, and for the heaviest five fish stringer in each age group.
“We value the opportunity to provide a family fun event that teaches fishing and an appreciation of our lakes, rivers and wildlife,” said Coleto Creek Park and Reservoir Manager Alan Schneider. “The tournament has grown each year over the past 25 years, with more than 100 kids participating last year.”
The event is free and open to the public; however, pre-registration is required. Parents may register their child by filling out the registration form on the GBRA website at gbra.org/coletocreekpark, or contact the park office directly at (361) 575-6366 or [email protected]. The park’s entrance fee is $12 per vehicle, and the entrance gates will be open at 6 a.m.

Coleto Creek Park and Reservoir offers camping, picnicking, and outdoor recreation opportunities, and is at 365 Coleto Park Road, off Highway 59 between Victoria and Goliad.

GBRA provides stewardship for the water resources in its 10-county statutory district which begins near the headwaters of the Guadalupe and Blanco rivers, ends at San Antonio Bay, and includes Kendall, Comal, Hays, Caldwell, Guadalupe, Gonzales, DeWitt, Victoria, Calhoun and Refugio counties.
