Originally founded in 1838 not long after the Texas Revolution, Seguin is a town with a richly layered history and modern presence. It is difficult to pass through this remarkable city without noticing the incredible landscape that surrounds it. It was the live oak trees and the flow of the water from Walnut Springs that initially encouraged frontier rangers to live by the Guadalupe River.

The town was named Seguin for the honorable Colonel Juan Seguin, a Tejano who fought beside Anglo settlers against Mexican dictator Santa Anna. Come experience the stories of Seguin and leave with a few stories of your own.

Central Park is home to a fountain, restored in the 1930s, with dancing waters and changing multi-colored lights as well as a bronze statue of Juan Seguin, the founder of Seguin, sculpted by Eric Christianson and surrounded by granite historical markers.
The Protestant Church, more than 160 years old, is Texas’ oldest standing Protestant Church. It was finished in time to host the 1849 Conference of Texas Methodists.
The Moore House was built more than a century ago by one of Teddy Roosevelt’s hunting partners in the same style as Roosevelt’s famous estate, Sagamore Hill. The owner provided quarter horses to Roosevelt from nearby El Capote Ranch.
You can enjoy a history of the rich multi-ethnic heritage and contributions throughout the centuries of Seguin and Guadalupe County at the Seguin Heritage Museum. Their collection of Native American artifacts was discovered just south of downtown.
