San Marcos

Well known for its year-round recreational activities, San Marcos is truly a hot spot for tourism. The main attraction of this area is the crystal clear spring-fed San Marcos River. The greater San Marcos region is ideally situated between two of the fastest growing MSAs in the United States.

San Marcos is home to the LBJ Museum, the San Marcos River, Aquarena Center, the Southwestern Writers Collection and the Wittliff Gallery, all of which offer visitors a day of fun and the opportunity to learn about San Marcos' unique history!

Did you know?

  • The San Marcos Municipal Airport was originally opened as an army air corps base during WWII.
  • One of the prize jewels of San Marcos is the local wing of the Commemorative Air Force.
  • The oldest residential structure in San Marcos is the Eli T. Merriman Cabin which was refurbished 8-10 years ago and relocated from Aquarena back to downtown two blocks from its initial residence. It was built by one of the original town site owners in 1846 and moved twice in the years since it was first erected.
